Burri Collection
Burri, was inspired by the Burray hoard of Viking jewellery. Found in 1889 by a local man, just a short distance from our workshop, it is the second largest Viking hoard ever discovered in Scotland. Today it can be seen at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Burri captures the Viking spirit; renowned as great seafarers and warriors, the Vikings arrived in Orkney around the 9th century in their distinctive longships, often decorated with dragons like those recreated in the Burri Collection. These ferocious mythical creatures symbolised immortality, physical and moral strength, which were all highly prized in Viking warrior culture.
